Received PhD degrees 1971 from Kerala University and did postdoctoral research at Southampton University in the United Kingdom. He was also a visiting professor at Franhaufer Institute, Freiberg, Germany.
Currently he is the Director of the Centre of Excellence in Lasers and Optoelectronic Sciences
(CELOS) and also the Emeritus Professor at ISP. He is the founder director of International School of Photonics. His research interests include lasers, laser matter interactions,
optoelectronics, molecular physics and solid state physics. He is the member of
the governing council of the Nuclear Science Centre (NSC), President of Photonics Society of
India and a fellow of the Optical Society of
India. He was the Vice President of the Indian Laser Association.
